In English this term, Year 3 have been lucky enough to learn how to create a rhyming poem with the help of The Lit Film Fest and the wonderful Michael Rosen. We enjoyed writing our poem about why we play very much and have become dab hands at rhyming couplets. We also turned our hand to the world of theatre and learnt how to write a play script.
In Maths, after all the fun experiments in Maths Week, we have been trying to become fraction masters by using all our previous knowledge. We couldn’t believe how many links to other math topics there are involved in fractions.
We’ve learnt a lot about forces and magnets this term in Science, we’ve experimented and investigated friction, gravity, air resistance and more.
In Topic, we’ve found it fascinating to learn all about our ancestors and our descendants and we loved going to the Museum of London in order to see what the world was like right at the beginning and we even got to handle relics from the Stone Age. We learnt all about our family tree and realised that we are all linked in some way.
The Autumn term in Year 3 has taken off in the best possible way. We have been so excited to join KS2 and show everyone what our class is about.
In Maths so far, we have consolidated and furthered our place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division knowledge as well as learning more about measurements.
In English, we have been enjoying our new scheme of work in Talk 4 Writing and we have worked really well creating our own versions of ‘The Papaya that Spoke’. We also created instructions for Sir Francis Drake on how to make hot chocolate for his Golden Hinde ship and created our own giant to live in Giant Country with the BFG and Sophie.
Our topics so far this academic year have been fun and new! We have learnt all about explorers and adventurers such as Neil Armstrong, Christopher Columbus and Valentina Tereshkova. We have also enjoyed researching about Great Britain and other countries that may have different lives than us.
In Science, we have become the masters at knowing how shadows and lights are formed and how the Earth has day and night. We can also dissect and label a plant for you with all the important parts.
I look forward to learning even more next term!
